Sodus: Florence Powers, age 95, passed away on August 16, 2012 at Rochester General Hospital after a brief illness. Florence was a graduate of the Flushing Medical Center’s Registered Nursing Program. She began her nursing career in the Borough of Queens in New York City. After returning to Sodus, she was employed at Myers Community Hospital for 45 years. She was predeceased by her parents Isabel and George Rawden, her brothers Frederick, Claude and Ralph Rawden, her sister, Marian LeRoy and her son Gary P. Powers. She is survived by her daughters: Patricia P. Karp of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Mary Sue (Gregory) Switzer of Sodus Point, Judith A. Powers of Chevy Chase, Maryland, her son George M. (Beth) Powers of Yorba Linda, California; her grandchildren: Laura M. (David) Brown of Williamson, Melanie E. Switzer (Ben DeBadts) of Sodus, John P. and Holly E. Powers of Yorba Linda, California; seven great-grandchildren: Austin, Sierra and Maya Brown, Jackson and Connor LaFave, Evan and Kendall DeBadts; her sister-in-law Edith Rawden, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Florence was a life-long member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Sodus, an active member of the Women of St. John’s, and a former member the Sodus Business and Professional Women’s Association.

A memorial service to celebrate Florence’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday August 21st at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 54 West Main Street in Sodus. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Women of St. John’s Church.
